The Cloth
Before the first measurement is taken, the cloth is chosen. It decides how a garment drapes, wears and ages.
Every fabric in Andrew's studio has travelled a long way, from open country to the mill to your fitting.
The Fleece
Fine cloth begins long before the mill, on open pastures and hillsides.
The finest wools come from sheep raised in cool, clean climates, where fleece grows soft, fine and resilient. That quality carries through every step that follows, and you can feel it in the finished garment.
The Thread
The fiber is spun, twisted and woven by mills with generations of experience.
How tightly a yarn is spun and how it is woven decide everything: the cloth's weight, its drape and how it wears for years. From smooth worsteds to soft flannels and textured tweeds, each weave has its own character.
The Origins
Andrew's swatch library draws on the countries that have defined fine cloth for centuries.
England
Structured, durable cloth with a long tradition behind it, made to hold its shape for years.
Scotland
Rich, characterful cloth shaped by a rugged landscape, warm and full of texture.
Italy
Soft, fluid cloth prized for its hand and refined drape, from lightweight suitings to cashmere.
The Library
For generations, tailors have kept their cloth in books like this one, sample by sample, noted by hand.
Andrew's swatch library carries on that tradition. Each cloth is chosen for its quality and character, and the full library is shared in person, so you can see the color in natural light and feel the weight in your hand before anything is cut.
